MEET SHARONA SHUSTER, FOUNDER AND PRINCIPAL
My career over the last two decades has focused on fostering social transformation in the non-profit sector at the local, national, and international levels, with a particular focus on advancing opportunities for women and girls.
For the last four years, I led the fundraising, communications, and evaluation work at Lide Haiti, an adolescent girls empowerment program working across rural Haiti. Throughout my tenure, I enabled the organization to scale and sustain their budget by 400%, increase their scholarships 800%, increase the number of girls they serve by 50%, and grow their staff by over 30%.
During this time, I also launched and grew Illuminate, where I work with national and international non-profits to strengthen their organizational development and maximize their social impact.
In my work with clients, I envision and enable bold possibilities for an organization. In a spirit of optimism and collaboration, I build on existing strengths while uncovering root causes of barriers to progress. I contribute an unwavering commitment to equity, extensive technical capacity in the areas of fundraising, communications, learning, evaluation, and strategic planning, and expertise across multiple issue areas. Working primarily with Executive Directors, I seek to accompany leaders to both design and implement plans to strengthen their organization’s effectiveness in ways that are practical, sustainable, and bold.
You can learn more about my professional background here, including my experiences accelerating maternal health innovation in East Africa and India with Ashoka, teaching graduate students at Georgetown University, and enabling ideologically diverse leaders to collaborate in tackling some of America’s biggest challenges at Convergence.
I have a Master’s Degree in Education, Human Development and Psychology from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and undergraduate degrees in psychology and philosophy from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
I live in Washington, DC with my husband and two teenage children and love gardening, singing, and long walks in nature.
I look forward to learning how we can work together to advance the betterment of the world.
